Dr. Mohammad Tazli Azizan is a distinguished educational consultant and co-founder of Skolar Malaysia. With a robust background in academia, he has made noteworthy contributions to teaching and learning ecosystem. He has been associated with esteemed institutions like Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UNIMAP), and currently holds the position of Associate Professor at Universiti Brunei Darussalam, specifically at the Center for Lifelong Learning (C3L).

Dr. Tazli holds a PhD in chemical engineering from Imperial College London since 2014 and is a certified HRDCorp trainer. Throughout his career, he has showcased his expertise in learner-centred pedagogical approaches, as well as harnessing AI tools and technologies for teaching and learning, enhancing productivity, enabling effective problem-solving, and facilitating postgraduate research. His extensive portfolio includes conducting diverse courses and workshops in these domains, empowering educators and students to leverage the potential of these tools throughout their educational journey.

In addition to his roles as an educator and advisor, Dr. Mohammad Tazli Azizan actively engages in policy reform at the national level. He has served as a member of the National Education Policy Reform Taskforce, collaborating closely with the former education minister to shape the trajectory of education in Malaysia. Fueled by his dedication to educational excellence, he is a highly sought-after speaker at teaching and learning events and conferences, inspiring educators to adopt innovative approaches in their classrooms.

LECTURER, UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI PETRONAS

Oct 2005 - June 2014

As a junior lecturer at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) from 2005 to 2014, Mohammad Tazli Azizan was responsible for teaching, research, and administrative duties. In his teaching role, he developed and delivered lectures and seminars to undergraduate and graduate students, and provided individual guidance and support. He also participated in the assessment and evaluation of student learning. In his research role, Mohammad Tazli conducted and published research in his area of expertise, with a focus on catalytic reaction engineering, biomass development, and the production of biofuel and bio-chemicals. He also worked to secure funding for his research projects and was involved in the supervision of graduate students. In his administrative role, Mohammad Tazli managed the day-to-day operations of his department or faculty, including budgeting and resource allocation, and he played a key role in the development and implementation of academic policies and procedures. Overall, his role as a junior lecturer at UTP required a wide range of skills and expertise, and was integral to the success of the institution.

SENIOR LECTURER, UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI PETRONAS

As a senior lecturer at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) from 2014 to 2017, Mohammad Tazli Azizan was responsible for teaching, research, and coordination. In his teaching role, he developed and delivered high-quality lectures and seminars to undergraduate and graduate students, and provided individual guidance and support. He was also involved in the assessment and evaluation of student learning. In his research role, Mohammad Tazli focused on biomass, biofuel, and bio-chemical development, and conducted and published research in this area. He secured funding for his research projects and supervised graduate students. In his coordination role, Mohammad Tazli managed the day-to-day operations of his department or faculty, and was involved in the development and implementation of academic policies and procedures. He also worked with external organizations as a consultant, providing expertise and advice on teaching and learning-related issues, and delivering professional development workshops and training sessions for educators.

As the head of a research and service center at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Mohammad Tazli Azizan is focused on driving innovation in teaching and learning among academic faculty members. The center focuses on three main areas: Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL), Enabling Learning, and Enabling Technologies (ET). As a catalyst for the transformation of 21st century teaching and learning at UTP, Mohammad Tazli's main responsibility is to ensure that the shift from teacher-centered to learner-centered approaches is successful and has a meaningful impact on students and educators. He also works to create networks and collaborations at the institutional, national, intervarsity, and international levels.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO), DIGITAL PERAK CORPORATION HOLDINGS (SECONDMENT)

Apr 2019 - Dec 2019

Mohammad Tazli Azizan was seconded from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) to lead the ICT and Telecommunication initiatives of the Perak state as the Chief Executive Officer of Digital Perak. He changed the working culture to focus on revenue generation and developed a strategic direction and blueprint for the company after it was rebranded as DPCH. He also created the DPCH core values (PRICE – Professional, Respect, Integrity, Creative & Efficient) and implemented strategies to uphold them. Tazli facilitated the telecommunication industry to improve facilities in Perak and led initiatives such as the Hub Inovasi & Multimedia at Mydin@Meru, which provided computer training, co-working spaces, and a green screen studio for the public at a nominal cost. He also secured grants from the state to develop augmented reality tourism apps.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, UNIVERSITI MALAYSIA PERLIS (UNIMAP)

Jan 2021 - Dec 2021

At Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UNIMAP), Mohammad Tazli Azizan was responsible for teaching, research, coaching, and administrative duties. As a member of the think-tank at the university level, he reported to the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic on teaching and learning-related policy. In his teaching role, he developed and delivered lectures and seminars to undergraduate and graduate students, and provided individual guidance and support. He also participated in the assessment and evaluation of student learning. In his research role, Mohammad Tazli focused on engineering education and published articles in high impact journals. He also coached other lecturers to improve their practices in teaching and learning. In his administrative role, Mohammad Tazli managed the day-to-day operations of his department or faculty, including budgeting and resource allocation, and he played a key role in the development and implementation of academic policies and procedures. Overall, his role at UNIMAP required a wide range of skills and expertise, and was critical to the success of the institution.

As co-founder of Skolar Malaysia, Mohammad Tazli Azizan is responsible for a wide range of tasks related to the company's operations. He co-owns the online platform Skolar Academy, which empowers educators to become 21st century lifelong learners by improving their teaching and learning skills through various pedagogical approaches and Canva and AI tools training. He is also the principal trainer for Skolar Malaysia, specializing in pedagogical topics with the application of technologies and generative AI. He co-founded a partnership company that aims to empower educators with pedagogical strategies and tools for teaching and learning. The goal of Skolar Malaysia is to be the leader in providing scholarly assistance to educators in schools and higher education institutions, especially in the area of teaching and learning. In his role, Mohammad Tazli organizes trainings, is involved in marketing the sessions, and handles the administrative tasks related to the company. He also plays a key role in strategizing the future direction of Skolar Malaysia and is responsible for networking with other professionals in the field. 

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, CENTER FOR LIFELONG LEARNING (C3L), UNIVERSITI BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

July 2023 - now

Dr. Tazli holds the position of Associate Professor at the Center for Lifelong Learning. In this role, he is responsible for developing courses and microcredentials, supervising students, and conducting research on lifelong learning and digital education. Dr. Tazli is tasked to design and create engaging microcredentials curriculum content, ensuring its relevance to adult learners. He is also assigned to oversee the development of microcredential programs to offer specialized learning opportunities for professionals. As a mentor, Dr. Tazli is to provide guidance and support to students, monitoring their progress and offering academic and career advice. Additionally, he is also expected to conduct research on innovative teaching methodologies and the impact of technology on adult education. Dr. Tazli seeks to actively collaborate with peers, participates in conferences, and establishes partnerships to foster knowledge exchange. By incorporating instructional technologies and promoting professional development, he ensures a high-quality learning experience for adult learners seeking personal and professional growth in the digital age.
